Scriptures Relating to Old Age

Psalms 91:16 With LONG LIFE will I satisfy him.

Psalms 90:10 The days of our years are threescore years and ten (70).  Dying at 70 was actually a curse on the Israelites who rebelled against God at Kadesh-Barnea, thus they died before reaching the promised land (Numbers 14:26-35).  This is not the set span of life.  It was not intended to refer to anyone except those Israelites under the curse during that particular forty years.

Jacob died at 130 (Genesis 47:9)….he complained that his life is just a few years, not nearly so long as my forefathers.  Moses died at 120,  Aaron – 123, Miriam several years older and Joshua at 110.  In the millennium, a person who dies at 100 will be thought of as a “child”.  …the child shall die a hundred years old.  (Isaiah 65:20)

Proverbs 20:29  The glory of young men is their strength: and the beauty of OLD MEN is their gray head (suggesting wisdom and experience).

Joshua 14:10-11 Amplified:  (Joshua speaking):   I am this day 85 YEARS OLD.  Yet I am as strong today as I was the day Moses sent me;  as my strength was then so is my strength now for war and to go out and to come in.

Romans 4:19-21 Amplified:     (Abraham) did not weaken in faith when he considered the utter impotence of his own body, which was as good as dead because he was about A HUNDRED YEARS OLD, , or when he considered the barrenness of Sarah’s deadened womb.  No unbelief or distrust made him waver concerning the promise of God, but he grew strong and was empowered by faith as he gave praise and glory to God.  Fully satisfied and assured that God was able and mighty to keep His word and to do what He had promised.

Luke 1 Amplified:  Zachariah and Elizabeth had no child … both were far advanced in years … vs. 18 I am an OLD MAN and my wife is WELL ADVANCED in years … vs. 20 Zechariah was not able to speak because you have not believed what I (God) told you … vs. 36 (God speaking to Mary) your cousin Elizabeth in her OLD AGE  has also conceived a son … vs. 37 For with God nothing is ever impossible – no word from God shall be without power or impossible of fulfillment … vs. 41 when Elizabeth heard Mary’s greeting, the baby leaped in her womb and Elizabeth was filled with and controlled by the Holy Spirit (WHEN? – in her OLD AGE) … vs. 67 Now Zachariah (John’s father) was filled with and controlled by the Holy Spirit and prophesied (WHEN? – in his OLD AGE)!

Luke 2:36-38 Amplified:   And there was also a prophetess, Anna…..She was VERY OLD,, having lived with her husband seven years from her maidenhood.  And as a widow even for 84 years.  She did not go out from the temple enclosure, but was worshiping night and day with fasting and prayer ….and she returned thanks to God and talked of Jesus to all who were looking for the redemption of Jerusalem.

Psalms 37:25 Amplified:   I (David) have been young and now am OLD, yet have I not seen the uncompromisingly righteous forsaken or their seed begging bread.

Titus 2:2-5 Amplified:   Urge the OLDER MEN to be temperate venerable (serious), sensible, self-controlled, and sound in the faith, in the love, and in the stedfastness and patience of Christ.

Bid the OLDER WOMEN similarly to be reverent and devout in their deportment as becomes those engaged in sacred service, not slanderers or slaves to drink.  They are to give god counsel and be teachers of what is right and noble.  So that they will wisely train the young women to be sane and sober of mind (temperate, disciplined) and to love their husbands, and their children.  To be self-controlled, chaste, homemakers, good-natured (kindhearted), adapting and subordinating themselves to their husbands that the word of God may not be exposed to reproach (blasphemed or discredited).

Philemon 9 AmplifiedI, Paul, an ambassador of Christ Jesus and an OLD MAN and now a prisoner for His sake also…

I Kings 12:6,8,13 AmplifiedAnd King Rehoboam consulted with the OLD MEN … But he forsook the counsel the OLD MEN gave him …And the king answered the people roughly and forsook the counsel the OLD MEN had given him.

Exodus 7:7 AmplifiedNow Moses was 80 YEARS OLD and Aaron 83 YEARS OLD when they spoke to Pharoh (about setting the children of Israel free from Egyptian bondage).

Isaiah 46:4 AmplifiedEven to your OLD AGE I am He, and even to hair white with age will I carry you.   I have made, and I will bear; yes, I will carry and will save you.

Psalms 92:12-15 AmplifiedThe uncompromisingly righteous shall flourish like the palm tree (be LONG LIVED, stately, upright, useful and fruitful);  they shall grow like a cedar in Lebanon (majestic, stable, durable and incorruptible).   Planted in the house of the Lord, they shall flourish in the courts of our God.  (Growing in grace) they shall still bring forth fruit in OLD AGE:  they shall be full of sap (spiritual vitality) and rich in the verdure of trust love and contentment.  They are living memorials to show that the Lord is upright and faithful to His promises.  He is my Rock and there is no unrighteousness in Him.

Ruth 4:15 Amplified:  And he shall be unto thee a restorer of thy life and a nourisher of thine OLD AGE.

Provers 10:27Amplified:  The fear of the Lord prolongs ones days.

Proverbs 16:31 Amplified:   The HOARY HEAD is a crown of beauty and glory (if) it is found in the way of righteousness (moral and spiritual rectitude in every area and relation).

Leviticus 19:32 Amplified:  You shall rise up before the HOARY HEAD and honor the face of the OLD MAN and reverently fear your God.   I am the Lord.
